Federation Activities

The Federation is updating the original Code of Practice to reflect the introduction of regulations under the Hazardous Substances and New Organism Act.  The 2001 HSNO Regulations impose requirements on perchloroethylene drycleaners, including the need for Approved Handlers, once the solvent becomes a transferred substance.

The Federation actively supports and maintains a close liaison with AgResearch (ex Canesis Network Ltd).  AgResearch offers a very comprehensive range of testing procedures and analysis systems.

District branches organise seminars, technical/special interest evenings and plant visits for members.  Social occasions are also organised by district branches for members to enjoy and to share experiences.

The Bi-Annual conference is to be held from 16-18 September 2016 in Wellington.  Members then get the opportunity to meet, exchange views, discuss problems and listen to guest speakers talking on subjects of vital concern to all. An Executive Committee is elected on an annual basis at the AGM held this year on the 18th of September.

The Federation maintains a relationship with a number of organisations.  Included are the following on which it has representation:

  • Ag Research (ex Canesis Network)
  • Apparel & Textile Industry Training Organisation (ATITO)
  • Business New Zealand
  • Textiles NZ

The industry also maintains a close relationship with the allied traders who belong as affiliate members of the Federation.

With the assistance of the Apparel & Textile Industry Training Organisation (ATITO), Federation is actively progressing the introduction of Unit Standards of Learning and has developed a National Certificate in Dry Cleaning and Laundering.

The Federation also assists with the running of seminars like spotting courses, etc.
